Best Practices

What makes a thumbnail actually get clicked

The thumbnail and title are the only two things a viewer sees before deciding to click. Here is what matters.

01

Keep titles under 60 characters for full visibility.

[PLACEHOLDER: Add your best practice copy here. E.g. explain why shorter titles outperform longer ones in click-through rate studies, and which formats (question, number list, "how to") tend to perform best on your channel.]

02

Use high-contrast, readable text on thumbnails.

[PLACEHOLDER: Add your copy here. Cover font size recommendations, colour contrast ratios for legibility at small sizes, and why overlapping the subject's face with text hurts CTR.]

03

Make your thumbnail readable at 168 × 94 px.

[PLACEHOLDER: Add your copy here. Explain the mobile-search card dimensions, how to test at small size before uploading, and common mistakes like too much detail that disappears when scaled down.]

04

Align thumbnail emotion with title promise.

[PLACEHOLDER: Add your copy here. The thumbnail is the visual hook; the title is the verbal hook. They should reinforce each other, not repeat the same information. Cover the "curiosity gap" principle.]
