YouTube Thumbnail Preview
Upload your thumbnail and see exactly how it looks in a real YouTube feed across desktop, search, and mobile before you publish.
What makes a thumbnail actually get clicked
The thumbnail is the only thing between a viewer and your video. Here is what the data says about what drives clicks.
Design for the 2-column feed — not just full size.
Most creators design thumbnails at full resolution, but viewers decide in under half a second based on a thumbnail roughly 320px wide. If your text or face is lost at that size, you lose the click.
Stand out against the competition in your niche.
Use the feed simulator to compare your thumbnail against others in your category. If every competitor uses dark backgrounds, a bright thumbnail will pull focus. Contrast is your competitive edge.
Keep your title under 60 characters for full visibility.
YouTube truncates titles on feed cards after roughly 60 characters on desktop, and even sooner on mobile. Front-load your strongest keywords so the most compelling part always shows.
Match the visual tone to the viewer's intent.
A thumbnail that looks out of place — too polished in a raw vlog feed, or too casual in a professional tutorial list — will actually hurt CTR. The simulator lets you A/B test before you publish.
